Sarah Cannon Research UK is SCRI's first research program outside the USA and patients are now being enrolled in phase 1 and later phase clinical trials.
Radiation Oncology
Many people with cancer will have radiotherapy as part of their cancer treatment. Second only to cancer surgery, radiotherapy is involved in the treatment of many cases where cancer is cured.
HCA has invested in state-of-the-art technology so that clinical oncologists - specialists in radiation oncology- can offer patients the latest treatment techniques to improve treatment outcomes and to reduce side effects. HCA's radiation oncology services are quality assured to the highest possible standards. Clinical oncologists are supported by expert teams of radiotherapists (radiographers), physicists, dosimetrists and nurses.
Intensity Modulated Radiotherapy (IMRT) sculpts radiotherapy to give a high dose to the cancer while avoiding normal tissues and is used especially in head and neck cancer, prostate, lung, breast and bladder cancer.
Image Guided Radiotherapy (IGRT) uses imaging during treatment to adjust for cancers such as lung, prostate and bladder cancers moving or changing during therapy increasing accuracy and allowing smaller volumes to be treated.
Stereotactic Body Radiotherapy (SBRT) is a combination of IMRT and IGRT to deliver a small number of very high dose treatments. HCA has invested in linear accelerators and specially designed equipment to ensure appropriate patients can benefit from this technique.
The London Gamma Knife Centre at Barts
The Centre, with the latest Gamma Knife Perfexion, is based at the heart of St Bartholomew's Hospital, having moved in 2009 from Harley Street where the team had amassed 10 years experience using Gamma Knife technology to help and treat hundreds of patients with brain tumours.
The CyberKnife Centre London
The CyberKnife is the world's first and only radiosurgery system that uses advanced robotics to treat cancers and The CyberKnife Centre London at The Harley Street Clinic was the first in the UK to offer this treatment. This revolutionary, safe, non-surgical procedure delivers highly focused radiation therapy precisely to where it is needed, minimising significant dose to surrounding normal tissues that would be vulnerable to damage from high radiation doses. CyberKnife treatment requires no anaesthesia, there is no recovery time and patients can usually be treated and go home on the same day.

Stem Cell & Bone Marrow Transplants
These highly specialist approaches are a key component in the management of some types of blood cancer including lymphomas and leukaemias. HCA offers a programme including both autologous and allogeneic transplants for adults, young people and children at The Harley Street Clinic, Harley Street at UCH and London Bridge Hospital.
